LANL Style System

The LANL Style System has been developed by the CAS Web & Visual Design team as a living document of the ‘One Lab, One Voice’ rebrand as it pertains to the Lab’s digital products. For more general guidance on the Lab brand vision, please consult the Design & Brand Guidelines.

This web resource is a facet of the Lab’s modern web stack and provides a foundation for the creation and delivery of modular web components. Though the LANL Style System is currently optimized for enabling smoother collaboration between designers and developers, it’s hoped that future iterations will expand its use to include content creators and other vital stakeholders as well. In the spirit of CAS’ collaborative vision and the Lab’s progressive culture of how we do work is as important as what we do, the philosophy of the LANL Style System is to enable new heights of creativity and efficiency by embracing the ideal, literally, that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

This is living documentation that will evolve in parallel to the development of the Lab’s external website. Collaboration and feedback is welcome!

Top-level highlights

  • Real-time Component Playground: Super-powered documentation allows stakeholder the ability to "play" with the component properties. Developers can develop with immediate feedback while designers can see their efforts come to life.
  • Collaboration: Admittedly a natural side-effect, yet, enabling and empowering stakeholders to gain context and further their ability to contribute value is generally beneficial.
  • Onboarding: Another facet to collaboration is getting stakeholders up-to-speed so they might utilize or contribute to the system. Beyond providing documentation of the packaged components, this site functions as a guide to new stakeholders.
